GI Health: Optimizing Digestion
Join us for our first Community Medicine Circle talk with local Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Haley Schimmer, in an exploration of disease prevention, self-resilience, and vitality. Open to all, the intention of the community medicine circle offerings is to weave connection, decrease isolation, improve health sovereignty, keep us out of the hospital, and to create more capacity for a vibrant healthy life.
Our digestive system brings nourishment to us, it is the interface with the outside world, and eliminates waste products. When things are running smoothly, the amazing functionality of this system may easily go unnoticed. However, when it is not, suffering and possibly very real health challenges can arise. In this first talk we will explore common digestive and GI conditions surveying what causes them, how to treat them without being dependent on medications, and prevention of such conditions.
Topics will include: - Common everyday digestive/GI complaints - The science of digestion and the gastrointestinal tract including principles of anatomy + physiology - Nutrition and everyday choices for supporting gut health - Accessible herbal and nutritional at home remedies for treating common GI symptoms - Stress, Gut-Brain Connection, and The Microbiome
What to bring: - A pen and paper or journal for notes - A yoga mat or cushion to sit on - Curiosity, an open mind, questions for the speaker and community, and your - most authentic self! *
The circles are meant to be inclusive and interactive so be prepared to participate as much or as little as you would like.
This is a sliding scale donation-based talk.
Please consider donating between $5-25 for participation.
